Mata has been offered Man Utd deal but has other options, says father

Manchester United have offered Juan Mata a new contract but the attacking midfielder has other options, according to his father.

Mata s contract at Old Trafford is set to expire at the end of the season, the former Spain international having been at the club since 2014.

The 30-year-old has won the Europa League, FA Cup and EFL Cup at United but has only started 13 Premier League games this term.

Mata s father, though, says a new deal is on the table for his son, who played for Chelsea before joining United.

Manchester United have offered to renew us, we are very happy, he told Cadena SER.

But there are proposals from Champions League teams.

Spain, maybe, but today is not the day to talk, it is not yet decided.

Keegan slams Ashley´s Newcastle ´mismanagement´

Newcastle United s Premier League campaign has suffered as a consequence of mismanagement from the very top , according to former manager Kevin Keegan.

The 65-year-old, who led Newcastle to a second-place finish in 1995-96, blasted the club s owner, Mike Ashley, for allowing the club to be relegated to the Championship for the second time in his reign.

In the nine years Ashley has been at the helm of the club, Newcastle have finished in the top 10 of the Premier League only twice, and the Magpies were also relegated when they finished 18th in 2008-09 – the season in which Keegan resigned to end his second spell as manager.

Speaking before the club s fate was sealed by Sunderland s victory over Everton on Wednesday, which put safety beyond Newcastle s reach, Kee…

Rodgers: I´ve turned down Swansea and four other clubs since Liverpool

Former Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers revealed he has turned down five job opportunities, including old club Swansea City, since his sacking at Anfield in October.

Rodgers was strongly linked with the Swansea job after Garry Monk was axed in December and he has confirmed that his former side were one of the teams he spoke to.

But the 43-year-old reiterated that he has no plans to take another job until the end of the season and believes his time out of the game will prove beneficial when he makes his return to management.

I have had five opportunities since I left Liverpool to get back into work, all at clubs I really respect, Rodgers told beIN Sports. But I just felt I wanted to take some time out. It is very intense when you are in the game.

Genoa 2 Juventus 0: Bianconeri suffer first Serie A defeat of the season

Juventus lost their first Serie A game of the season as Stefano Sturaro and Goran Pandev sealed a memorable 2-0 win for Genoa at Stadio Luigi Ferraris on Sunday.

Genoa activated their obligation to buy Sturaro from Juventus for €16.5million in February, less than two weeks after he joined on loan and he marked his first appearance of his second spell with the opener after 72 minutes.

That was followed nine minutes from time by Pandev s fine strike past Mattia Perin to secure a deserved victory for the hosts.

Cristiano Ronaldo was rested after his midweek heroics against Atletico Madrid and Juve sorely missed his attacking threat in what was an insipid display.

David Silva the unsung hero of the City midfield

Manchester City have been on a different planet to anybody else in the Premier League for most of the campaign. One of their star players Belgian international Kevin De Bruyne was rightly considered a contender for Player of the Year award, won by Liverpool’s Egyptian star Mohamed Salah.

However, for me, Spanish attacking midfielder David Silva seems to go unnoticed in that Citizens midfield. Maybe because the likes of De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane have shined that Silva’s contribution is overshadowed.

Impressive stats this season

Silva has once again been an attacking force to be reckoned with in whatever position in the team he has played. This season the 32-year-old has scored nine top-flight goals, while also producing 11 assists. Those are impressi…

Shake-up or status quo? Gianni Infantino´s plan for FIFA

New FIFA president Gianni Infantino won a mandate to implement his election manifesto when he triumphed in the second round of voting at the extraordinary congree in Zurich on Friday.

But what will this mean for global football and its world governing body?

Infantino s pre-election pledges are divided into three key pillars of reform, democracy and participation, and football development.

Here Omnisport assesses the flagship policies of the man who served as UEFA general secretary from 2009 and how they will guide his reforms of the embattled organisation as he takes over from Sepp Blatter.

I: Reform and Good Governance

Infantino s first pillar is largely aligned with the FIFA reform package passed by an 89 per cent majority earlier at …
